Arrows of Desire
emma-blair-arrows-of-desire.jpg Beth Somerville's family has been hit hard by the Second World War. Life in the Glasgow tenements was never easy but now, with her father killed in action, life for Beth, her brother Roy and mother Cissie is becoming increasingly harsh.  Then her sweetheart Teddy Ramsay, a piper with the Royals, is reported missing in action after being sent off to serve in Singapore.

In wartime, everyone grabs what brief happiness they can and in Beth's case, she finds herself drawn to Teddy's dashing brother Steve, a flying ace.  Despite her brother Roy's deep disapproval, their relationship blossoms with plans for a secret wedding.  Yet again fate deals Beth a cruel hand when Steve is killed in action, leaving Beth alone with a baby on the way.

Disgraced and dismissed from the family home, Beth must struggle to fend for herself and her tiny son.  Enter Gene McKay, a Canadian farmer, who sweeps her off her feet and on to a fresh start in Canada.

Thousands of miles from her Glasgow home, Beth discovers that her new husband has been keeping a dark secret from her.  It seems that his motive for marrying her was nothing to do with love.  Beth soon realises that she is centre stage in a sinister plot that will endanger not only her own life but also her son's.

Here's a brief synopsis.....

For Lexa and Cordelia Stewart, the late 1930s bring changes that neither could have dreamed of.  For as well as the onslaught of war, the death of their father leaves them ill-equipped to run the family business.  Cordelia falls recklessly in love with Joe Given, who is not only married but is looking elsewhere.  Meanwhile, Lexa finds brief happiness with William until the war cruelly postpones their wedding.

Will the tarot card message read by her grandmother years ago finally come true?  Will a 'cruel misunderstanding' stand in the way of Lexa and her longed-for marriage?
